In some obscure Tantric and Kriya sub-lineages (e.g., those stemming from Lahiri Mahasaya's numerous disciples), variations of the core Kriya exist. Some scholars suggest that Babaji may have taught variations suited to different temperaments. It is theoretically possible that, when including the minor variations, mental permutations, and combinations of mudras (gestures), bandhas (locks), and pranayamas, a comprehensive taxonomy could reach 144. However, this remains speculative and is not standard curriculum.
