Turns out, Zatch is a Mamodo (demon) from another world, sent to Earth to battle 100 other Mamodo pairs. The last one standing becomes king. Zatch carries a mysterious red book; when Kiyomaro reads the spells inside, Zatch unleashes powerful lightning-based attacks.
