Isaidub, which translates to "audio dub" in Tamil, began as a humble online platform where users could share and download dubbed versions of movies and TV shows. Culture complicates the calculus. Isaidub’s rhythms have always included improvisation: bands playing in converted warehouses, poets reciting on the backs of flatbed trucks, murals that mapped neighborhood alliances. These are fragile ecosystems. They flourish when space is cheap and when there is a sense that failure is survivable. They wither when rent spikes and landlords prefer cocktail bars to rehearsal spaces. That doesn’t mean development and culture are forever at odds—cities can and should design for creative spaces, incubators, and accessible venues—but only when policy recognizes cultural production as infrastructural, not incidental.

During the relocation process, Wikus comes into contact with an alien weapon that causes his body to undergo a transformation, slowly turning him into one of the aliens. This transformation leads to Wikus being hunted by the government and forced to seek refuge among the very aliens he was supposed to evict.
