"La Buena Mentira" (The Good Lie) is a 2014 Kenyan drama film directed by Amr Salama. The movie tells the story of a young woman, Mamere, who returns to her native Kenya after 20 years abroad, only to find her family torn apart by the 2007-2008 post-election violence.
The story follows a group of siblings—Mamere, Jeremiah, Paul, and Abital—whose village is destroyed during the Second Sudanese Civil War. After an arduous 1,000-mile trek to a refugee camp in Kenya, they are eventually selected for resettlement in Kansas City, Missouri.
