The narrative follows Oh Dae-su (played by Choi Min-sik), an ordinary man who is kidnapped and imprisoned in a private cell for 15 years without explanation. During his captivity, he learns his wife has been murdered and that he is the prime suspect. Suddenly released with money and a cell phone, he is given five days to discover why he was imprisoned.
