Kobelco 7080 Crane — Quick Operator’s Guide Warning: This is a brief operational guide. Always follow the manufacturer’s full operator’s manual, site safety rules, and local regulations. Use personal protective equipment and work with a qualified signal person when required. 1) Machine overview
Type: Hydraulic crawler crane (Kobelco 7080 series). Main controls: Engine throttle, main winch lever(s), swing control, boom hoist, boom length telescoping or boom sections, travel levers, counterweight, outriggers (if equipped). Load chart: Must be used for every lift — depends on boom length, radius, counterweight, and ground condition.
2) Pre-start inspection (daily)
Check engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, fuel. Inspect tracks, sprockets, rollers, track tension. Check boom sections, pins, sheaves, ropes for wear, deformation, broken strands, kinks. Inspect hooks, latch, safety catch, and block. Check counterweight securement and condition. Verify all lights, gauges, horn, alarms, and emergency stop work. Test brakes, swing brake, and travel brake. Confirm load moment limiter (if fitted), anti-two-block device, and other safety systems operational. Inspect hydraulic hoses for leaks and fittings for tightness. Ensure operator cab clean; mirrors and windows clear. Kobelco 7080 Crane Operators Manual
3) Start-up procedure
Enter cab using three-point contact. Fasten seat belt. Start engine; allow warm-up at low idle until oil pressure and temperature normalize. Check instrument panel for fault lights. Cycle controls (no-load) to confirm smooth operation of boom, hoist, swing, and travel. Perform function test of horn, lights, and emergency stop.
4) Lifting setup
Ground: Confirm stable bearing capacity; install mats or cribbing if soft. Do not operate on slopes beyond manufacturer limits. Outriggers/tracks: Deploy per spec; confirm level within limits or use rated blocking. Counterweight: Fit correct counterweight per lift plan/load chart. Rigging: Use certified slings, shackles, and spreader bars. Verify sling angles and working load limits. Radius and boom length: Determine required radius and boom configuration; consult load chart. Taglines: Use to control load swing as needed.
5) Lift planning & safety
Determine load weight and center of gravity; verify within crane rated capacity at planned radius/boom. Use lift plan for critical lifts; consult qualified lift supervisor for multi-crane or complex lifts. Establish exclusion zone and warning signs; maintain communication with signal person (standard hand signals or radio). Check for overhead hazards (power lines). Keep minimum clearance per regulations; de-energize lines if possible. Never exceed rated load, or allow shock loading. Do not lift personnel with hook unless a certified personnel platform and procedures are used. Kobelco 7080 Crane — Quick Operator’s Guide Warning:
6) Basic lifting operation
Lift slowly and smoothly; avoid sudden starts/stops. Use boom hoist and winch in combination to control load swing. Keep boom angle and radius within load chart limits. Avoid side-loading the boom; approach lifts squarely and keep load centered beneath hook when possible. If unexpected load behavior occurs, lower load safely to ground before correcting. Use two-block prevention and watch anti-two-block devices.
